Award Winning Performances

BEACON
Nicole Peters, an AVEDA Institute Des Moines cosmetology student and graduate, demonstrated a strong competitive streak and put forth her best efforts as a beauty school professional, securing a spot in the 2010 Beacon program. Nearly 600 students applied, with 100 selected to participate.

Peters, along with the AVEDA Institute Des Moines Director of Education, Alina Roselli, jetted off to Las Vegas from July 17-20 to attend the program held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

Beacon is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for cosmetology students to spend two full days with masters of the salon industry. With a focus on business skills, marketing and leadership, the Beacon program is designed to encourage career development and professional growth.

The Beacon application process involves students creating a professional resume, portfolio and professional marketing piece. All of the applications were judged by Professional Beauty Association (PBA) Beacon Committee, which includes very prominent and successful salon and spa owners, distributors and manufacturers. Winning entries were selected based on creativity, presentation and content.

The AVEDA Institute Des Moines congratulates Nicole Peters on her achievement!

EDWIN NEILL FULL POTENTIAL AWARD WON 2nd Year In A Row!!!
The Aveda Institute Des Moines found out in early September that for the 2nd year in a row, their student team won the prestigious Edwin Neill Full Potential Award.  Students competed in three beauty categories against 56 Aveda Institutes nationwide to win this honor.  In October 2011, students Lindsay Hoffman (hair color), Lizzie Wilson (hair cut), and Hanna Ring (make-up), were honored in front of the entire AVEDA network at 2011 Congress held in Minneapolis, MN!
Edwin Neill was an innovator in the beauty industry and a perpetual student who gave to the AVEDA network through his work in distribution at Neill Corporation in the south. Edwin's contributions included developing Neill Corp. College: a learning facility for salon owners and managers, a marketing company to help develop the salon industry, software to more effectively time manage in salons, his own salons so that he was always directly in the business, and his legacy, his inspirational events which bring together the best people in the industry to premiere business trainings in the country. Edwin loved preservation, family, his work team and looking for full potential in all people.
The students had so much support under the guidance of our awesome education team, Creative Director Lindsey Clark, and photographer Trav McAvaddy.
